Castellon
If the thought of getting off the main tourist route appeals
to you, why not visit the interior of Castellon.
The region of Castellon is the second most mountainous in Spain.
Its interior is characterised by rugged terrain, clearly demonstrating
the hostile power of nature. The landscape is bone dry in the
Summer. The weather typically mirrors the varying altitudes
of the surrounding plains and mountains. The highest mountain
in the province is the Penyagolosa Peak at 1813 metres. Castellon
is considered to be one of Spain's great forgotten legacies.
In the north of the Castilian region lies the province of Els
Ports, whose capital is Morella. Morella is one of the most
exquisite tourist sites, due to its imposing historical monuments,
such as the castle, its ramparts and the medieval church. The
church, in a similar vein to other churches in the region, has
a beautifully hand painted ceiling, dating back many hundreds
of years. From a culinary point of view, Morella's cobbled streets
are lined with many family run tapas bars, which are worth a
try after the steep steps up to the castle. Morella is famous
for its locally manufactured honey, which may also be purchased
nearby...
